In The Healing Wisdom of Africa, Dagara shaman Malidoma Somé writes about how most indigenous cosmologies reflect an “awareness of how intimately we are connected to creation and nature,” affirming that the same core elements that form—and transform—the Earth, Moon, cosmos and everything else in existence form and transform us as well, both in terms of our biology and our consciousness.

Dagara cosmology is based on five elements—Fire, Water, Earth, Mineral and Nature—but I find it best (for now) to work with the four-element model that’s more familiar to me and many Westerners: Water, Fire, Air and Earth.

According to Somé, “individuals are born embodying one of these elements as their essence and carrying the rest at a variety of levels as support elements,” and “your essence is your genius.” But beyond embodying our elemental genius, the aim is to develop a harmonious, interdependent relationship amongst all of the elements, leading to a sense of stability within.

In an Elemental Awareness & Balancing reading, I will examine your natal chart to help you identify and harness the strengths of your elemental essence (fire, water, earth, air) and its modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable), and how you can embrace the wisdom of each. I will provide insights, strategies and practical tools that position you to:

  • Integrate the light and shadow sides of your primary element.

  • Develop healthy relationships with all the elements, empowering you to maintain or restore a sense of harmony, balance and stability.

  • Strengthen the fabric of your community by more fully and intentionally embodying the universal principle of your element and contributing your gifts to help unify the collective.
